About Christina

"Life has become increasingly complex and it has become normal to struggle with mental health. I believe life is most satisfying when we live true to our values, live with purpose, and build meaningful relationships with others. The most important relationship we need to nurture is with ourselves. The emotional burdens we carry can get in the way, and we often continue reliving old patterns that no longer serve us. Effective counselling can help us recognize and shift those patterns.

My therapeutic practice is grounded in a humanistic approach, informed by Internal Family Systems. I also incorporate elements of other therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Self-Compassion and Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). In my experience, people benefit when they make changes based on insights about themselves. With a deeper understanding of self, we can move more meaningfully and peacefully through the world.

I completed my degree in psychology in 1994, worked in law enforcement for 15 years (7 years RCMP followed by 8 years as a Probation Officer) before completing a Master of Counselling program. I regularly upgrade my skill set, and a few years ago completed a Post-Graduate Certificate in Complex Trauma and Child Sexual Abuse. I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors."
