About Emily
"I went into the field of counselling out of a belief that talking helps people find healing. I believe that almost everyone can benefit from therapy at some point in life, regardless of age, background, identity, or beliefs. I created Talking Helps Heal as a group practice to offer a diverse team of practitioners so that anyone who is open, reflective, and ready for change can find the right therapeutic fit and begin their healing journey. Maybe that's with me, and maybe not! It's really all about the connection between the therapist and their client.

My approach is person-centered and flexible, but primarily grounded in Internal Family Systems (IFS), Enneagram personality systems, and psychoanalytic perspectives. Whether we fully dive into these frameworks or gently integrate them, they help us explore patterns, childhood experiences, trauma, biases, and societal norms. I believe each person’s path to growth is unique, so I'm here to meet the client who is in front of me. Clients often intuitively know their feelings and needs, but it can take guidance and support to reconnect with these deeper parts of themselves. Through my own personal experiences with loss, pain, anxiety, and questioning, I have come to deeply believe in the transformative power of therapy from the client’s standpoint.

As a mother myself, I care about supporting parents through difficult times like pregnancy, fertility challenges, miscarriage, grief, and all stages of parenthood. I use a lot of empowering work and focus on the messages we carry with us, unique growth, and increasing self-compassion.

I believe the therapeutic relationship is the foundation for change and want you to feel comfortable sharing anything. I know that, as people, we sometimes protectively shield others from seeing "all of us," and I don't want you to have to do that here.

In addition to finding a good fit, it is important to seek counselling from a trained and registered professional. In addition to a Master’s in Counselling Psychology, I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the BCACC, and have completed training in Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), the Enneagram, Complex Care for Trauma, Sandtray Therapy (Satir), and Perinatal Mental Health with a focus on reproductive and birth trauma. I am currently also an RCC-ACS (C) (Approved Clinical Supervisor Candidate) and love supporting other therapists in supervision."
