OCD and Anxiety Counselling in Cranbrook and Kimberley, BC: Therapy that Helps You Heal

If you are living with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) or struggling with anxiety in Cranbrook, Kimberley, or the East Kootenays, you are not alone. At Talking Helps Heal, we specialize in counselling for OCD, intrusive thoughts, compulsions, and the overwhelming impact that anxiety can have on everyday life. Our team of Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCCs) and Canadian Certified Counsellors (CCCs) provides therapy that is grounded, supportive, and focused on helping you build the life you want — not the life that anxiety dictates.

OCD is often misunderstood, minimized as just being “too neat” or “overthinking,” but for those who live with it, the experience is much deeper. Unwanted thoughts, images, or fears can feel constant and exhausting. Compulsions can be mental or physical, and can start to take up more and more space, getting in the way of relationships, work, school, and peace of mind. There are many subtypes of OCD, but here are 2 examples to give you an idea of how OCD is not just perfectionism: Example 1: Checking Compulsions (Fear of Harm)

Alex constantly worries that they left the stove on, even if they haven’t cooked that day. Before leaving the house, they check the knobs repeatedly—sometimes for 30 minutes or more. Even after checking, they might drive away, only to turn back to check again. It disrupts their ability to get to work on time, and they feel embarrassed but can't shake the fear that something terrible will happen if they don’t make absolutely sure.

Example 2: Mental Compulsions (Fear of Being a “Bad” Person)

Priya has intrusive thoughts about accidentally hurting someone, even though she never would. To feel "safe," she mentally reviews everything she said or did that day, replaying conversations to make sure she didn’t offend anyone or act aggressively. She may silently repeat phrases to “neutralize” the bad thoughts. These mental rituals make it hard for her to focus at work or be present in social situations, and leave her mentally exhausted.

OCD is different from anxiety even though they can co-exist. Anxiety can look different for everyone. It might be constant worry, social fear, panic attacks, or a relentless sense that something bad is about to happen. It might show up in your body — tightness in your chest, trouble sleeping, racing thoughts, or it might just be that sense of never being able to truly relax.

No matter how anxiety or OCD shows up for you, it’s exhausting. It can feel like you're stuck in a loop that you can’t break. But healing is possible, and you don’t have to navigate it alone.

Specialized Therapy for OCD and Anxiety in Cranbrook and Kimberley

At Talking Helps Heal, we offer specialized counselling for OCD and anxiety that is tailored to your unique experience. Our team uses evidence-based approaches like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD, mindfulness-based practices, and somatic therapy to help you build new skills, respond differently to anxiety triggers, and live with more freedom and ease.

We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all therapy. When you come to Talking Helps Heal, you’ll work with a counsellor who takes the time to understand your story, your strengths, and what’s most important to you. Together, we’ll build a plan that makes sense for your goals — whether that’s getting a handle on intrusive thoughts, reducing compulsions, navigating daily anxiety, or simply feeling like yourself again.
